How NursingCEA works
Free practice, a blind-then-reveal test experience, a dashboard that shows exactly where to study next, and an AI tutor to explain any rationale a different way. Here’s the real sequence, end to end — no fine print.
Step 1
Pick a topic — or the full practice exam
Choose from 8 nursing topics — pharmacology, medical-surgical, pediatrics, OB and maternity, mental health, fundamentals, dosage calculations, or leadership and management — or mix them into one full-length practice exam. No account required to start; if you’re signed out, you’ll pick your state first (this is how we measure demand by state — it isn’t used to gate or limit anything).
Step 2
Answer 10 questions — played blind if you're not signed in
A guest test is always 10 questions. After each answer you submit, you’ll see a short “Saving your answer…” pause instead of an instant right/wrong verdict — the correct answer, the rationale, and your score are held back until the end. This is deliberate: it keeps the guest experience an honest, complete test rather than a question-by-question answer key you could game.
If you’re signed in, study mode skips the blind pause entirely — you get the correct answer and full rationale the instant you submit each question, plus a timed mode with a per-question clock for exam-condition practice.
Step 3
Reveal your score by email — or instantly with an account
Once you finish all 10 questions as a guest, you’ll be asked for your name and email so we can grade the test and send your results. There’s no password: click the emailed link (or enter the 6-digit code), and that one click both verifies your email and creates your free account — landing you straight on your dashboard with the finished test already graded: your score, every question, your answer, the correct answer, and the full rationale for each.
Step 4
Your dashboard shows exactly where to study next
Every graded attempt rolls into a per-topic accuracy breakdown, weakest-first, plus quick links to drill your weakest topic, open the matching study guide, or resume an in-progress test on any device. It’s the same dashboard whether you got there through the blind funnel above or by creating an account directly.
Step 5
Ask the AI tutor when a rationale doesn't click
Every question already includes a full rationale citing a real clinical source. If it still doesn’t click, a verified member can ask the built-in AI tutor to explain the same rationale a different way, right on that question. The tutor is AI-generated and not a substitute for a licensed provider or your course materials — .

Every practice question, quiz, study guide, calculator, and the AI tutor are free, with no question limit and no credit card — whether or not you ever create an account. An account only adds the things a one-off test can’t: saved scores, weak-topic tracking, resuming across devices, and instant reveals in study mode.

How it works, in detail
- Do I have to create an account to practice?
- No. Anyone can start a practice test with no account — pick a topic or take the full practice exam, answer 10 questions, and you'll see your score once you give an email at the end (or create a free account for instant answers as you go).
- Why can't I see if I got a question right immediately as a guest?
- Anonymous and lead (pre-verification) tests are played blind on purpose: after you submit an answer you'll see a brief "Saving your answer…" pause instead of an instant right/wrong reveal, and the correct answer and rationale only appear once you verify your email at the end of the 10-question test. This keeps the guest experience an honest, complete test rather than a question-by-question answer key. Signed-in study mode skips this entirely — you get the verdict and rationale the instant you submit.
- What happens when I click the emailed link?
- Clicking the link (or entering the 6-digit code from the same email) both verifies your email AND creates your account in one step — there's no separate registration form. It takes you straight to your dashboard, where your just-finished test is already graded and waiting: your score, every question, your answer, the correct answer, and the full rationale.
- Is there a password?
- No. NursingCEA is entirely passwordless. You sign in (or sign up) the same way every time: enter your email, we send a link and a 6-digit code, and either one gets you in. There's nothing to create or forget.
- Can I use this for CNA, Patient Care Tech, or Phlebotomy, not just NCLEX-RN?
- Yes. The same practice engine, blind-then-reveal funnel, dashboard, and AI tutor work across all five fields we support today: CNA, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomy, NCLEX-PN (LPN/LVN), and NCLEX-RN — one free account covers all of them.
