The Arizona State Board of Nursing regulates the state's registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and advanced practice nurses as a standalone agency. Most nursing employment is concentrated in metro Phoenix — served by systems such as Banner Health, one of the state's largest employers, and HonorHealth — and in the Tucson area anchored by Banner–University Medical Center. Arizona was one of the original states to adopt the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact when it took effect January 19, 2018, giving eligible resident nurses a single multistate license.

How to register for the NCLEX in Arizona
- 1. Apply for licensure by examination with the Arizona State Board of Nursing and meet its eligibility requirements.
- 2. Register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE and pay the exam fee.
- 3. Once the board finds you eligible, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule at a Pearson VUE test center.

Instead, licensees attest to continued competency — for example, at least 960 hours of nursing practice within the past five years, a Board-approved refresher course, or a nursing degree completed within the past five years.
