How to register for the NCLEX in Virginia

Each renewal cycle a nurse completes at least one board-approved learning activity, such as: 30 contact hours of workshops, seminars, conferences, or courses relevant to nursing; 15 contact hours plus 640 hours of active nursing practice; current specialty certification from a national certifying organization; a minimum of three credit hours of post-licensure academic nursing education; a board-approved refresher course; participation in an evidence-based practice project or research study; authoring a nursing publication; or teaching/developing nursing courses or CE.

There is no fixed CE-hour mandate for every nurse — any one of the approved continued-competency options satisfies renewal. Documentation must be kept for two years after renewal.
