Nursing is regulated by the Utah Board of Nursing, which convenes under the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) in the Department of Commerce. Utah was one of the four states that founded the original Nurse Licensure Compact in 2000.

Nursing licensure in Utah is set by the Utah Board of Nursing and Certified Nurse Midwives, Utah Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL), within the Utah Department of Commerce. For official, current requirements, use the board directly.
How to register for the NCLEX in Utah
- 1. Apply for licensure by examination with the Utah Board of Nursing and Certified Nurse Midwives and meet its eligibility requirements.
- 2. Register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE and pay the exam fee.
- 3. Once the board finds you eligible, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule at a Pearson VUE test center.

License renewal & continuing education in Utah
- License renewal
- every two years (RN licenses expire January 31 of odd-numbered years; LPN licenses expire January 31 of even-numbered years)
- RN continuing education
- In the two years before renewal a nurse must complete at least one of: 400 hours of licensed practice; 200 hours of licensed practice plus 15 hours of approved continuing education; or 30 hours of approved continuing education.
- Required topics
- suicide prevention (at least one approved online training, which also counts toward CE)

Yes. Utah was one of the four original NLC states in 2000 and moved to the enhanced NLC on January 19, 2018. Nurses whose primary residence is Utah can qualify for a multistate license.
The Utah Board of Nursing, working through the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL) within the Utah Department of Commerce, licenses and regulates nurses in the state.
Register for the NCLEX with NCSBN through Pearson VUE and pay the exam fee, then apply for licensure through Utah's Division of Professional Licensing. After DOPL confirms your eligibility, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule your NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN at a Pearson VUE test center.
