New Jersey completed full implementation of the Nurse Licensure Compact on November 15, 2021, so nurses who make New Jersey their primary residence can now hold a multistate license. How to register for the NCLEX in New Jersey
- 1. Apply for licensure by examination with the New Jersey Board of Nursing and meet its eligibility requirements.
- 2. Register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE and pay the exam fee.
- 3. Once the board finds you eligible, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule at a Pearson VUE test center.

License renewal & continuing education in New Jersey

- Required topics
- 1 contact hour on prescription opioid drugs — including alternatives to opioids for managing and treating pain and the risks and signs of opioid abuse, addiction, and diversion (counts toward the 30 hours)
The 30-hour requirement and the mandatory opioid hour apply to both RNs and LPNs; up to 15 surplus hours may be carried into the next renewal period. Confirm current requirements with the board before relying on them.
