Nursing in Ohio is regulated by the Ohio Board of Nursing, an independent state agency that issues and renews RN and LPN licenses and approves the state's nursing education programs. Ohio is home to a broad mix of public research universities, private colleges, and community-college programs across Columbus, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and the surrounding regions. Since implementing the Nurse Licensure Compact on January 1, 2023, qualifying Ohio residents can apply for a multistate license that lets them practice in other compact states. The original practice questions here are for study and exam preparation only.

How to register for the NCLEX in Ohio
- 1. Apply for licensure by examination with the Ohio Board of Nursing and meet its eligibility requirements.
- 2. Register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE and pay the exam fee.
- 3. Once the board finds you eligible, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule at a Pearson VUE test center.

The 24-hour requirement (including the Category A hour) applies to both RNs and LPNs; a nurse newly licensed by examination is not required to complete CE for the first renewal. Confirm current requirements with the board.

Yes. Ohio implemented the Nurse Licensure Compact on January 1, 2023. Eligible nurses whose primary state of residence is Ohio can apply through the Ohio Board of Nursing for a multistate license that allows practice in Ohio and other compact states.

Apply for licensure with the Ohio Board of Nursing, register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE, and pay the exam fee to the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN). After the board finds you eligible, you receive an Authorization to Test and can schedule at a Pearson VUE testing center.
