How to register for the NCLEX in South Dakota

- 3. Once the board finds you eligible, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule at a Pearson VUE test center.

A nurse verifies current competency through nursing practice — at least 140 hours of employment in any 12-month period, or a total of 480 hours during the previous six years — or, if practice cannot be verified, by completing a Board-approved RN/LPN refresher course.
No continuing-education mandate; competency is shown by practice hours or a refresher course. The same standard applies to RNs and LPNs. Confirm current thresholds with the Board.
