Idaho's nurses are regulated by the Idaho Board of Nursing, which sits within the state's Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses. Care in the state is dominated by two large systems — St. Luke's Health System and Saint Alphonsus Health System, both centered on the Boise metro — alongside critical-access hospitals that serve Idaho's many rural counties, making multistate licensure especially useful across the region. As a Nurse Licensure Compact member, Idaho allows resident nurses to hold one multistate license valid throughout the compact.

How to register for the NCLEX in Idaho
- 1. Apply for licensure by examination with the Idaho Board of Nursing and meet its eligibility requirements.
- 2. Register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE and pay the exam fee.
- 3. Once the board finds you eligible, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule at a Pearson VUE test center.

- Idaho does not mandate a fixed number of continuing-education hours. Instead, nurses must satisfy the Board's continued-competence requirement by completing at least two qualifying activities each two-year renewal. Recognized activities include 15 contact hours of continuing education, a period of active nursing practice, current national certification, post-licensure academic nursing coursework, or a Board-recognized refresher course.
The continued-competence requirement is waived for the first renewal following initial licensure by examination. Confirm the current list of qualifying activities and any rule updates directly with the Board.

Yes. Idaho is a Nurse Licensure Compact member and has issued multistate licenses since the enhanced NLC took effect on January 19, 2018. Nurses who make Idaho their primary residence can apply for a multistate license.
The Idaho Board of Nursing regulates RN, LPN, and APRN licensure, and it operates within the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL).
Apply for licensure with the Idaho Board of Nursing, then register for the NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN with NCSBN and pay the fee. Once the board confirms eligibility you will receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and can schedule at a Pearson VUE center. NCLEX is administered by NCSBN and delivered through Pearson VUE; NursingCEA is not affiliated with either.
Use the Idaho Board of Nursing license search on the DOPL website to look up a licensee by name or number. Multistate compact licenses can also be confirmed through Nursys.
