NCLEX practice questions for Colorado nurses & students
Colorado's nurses are licensed by the Colorado State Board of Nursing, a program of the Division of Professions and Occupations within the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). The Denver metro area concentrates much of the state's nursing workforce, with major employers including UCHealth — anchored by the University of Colorado Hospital on the Anschutz Medical Campus — HealthONE, and Intermountain Health facilities. Colorado was one of the original enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact states when it took effect January 19, 2018, so eligible resident nurses can hold a multistate license.

Nursing licensure in Colorado is set by the Colorado State Board of Nursing, a program of the Colorado Division of Professions and Occupations within the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA). For official, current requirements, use the board directly.
How to register for the NCLEX in Colorado
- 1. Apply for licensure by examination with the Colorado State Board of Nursing and meet its eligibility requirements.
- 2. Register for the NCLEX with Pearson VUE and pay the exam fee.
- 3. Once the board finds you eligible, you receive an Authorization to Test (ATT) and schedule at a Pearson VUE test center.

License renewal & continuing education in Colorado

- The Colorado State Board of Nursing does not require continuing-education contact hours to renew an RN license. Instead, licensees participate in a continued-competency program — completing a reflective practice portfolio and a learning plan each cycle, submitted only if audited.
Nurses who have not practiced on an active license in the prior two years must instead demonstrate competency, for example by completing a Board-approved refresher course. Confirm current requirements with the board.
